The East St Kilda Eye Clinic was established by Dr Leber in 1988. It has developed into a busy centre of excellence in eye care. Our Doctors - Dr Gary Leber, Dr Philip Hoffman, Dr Benjamin Au and Dr Nick Mantzioros have extensive experience in the professional field.

Dr Leber graduated Medicine in 1979 and completed his Ophthalmology specialisation at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne in 1986. He then completed one postgraduate year in Melbourne and a second post graduate year in Oxford before commencing private practice in 1988.
Dr Leber is on the Senior Medicals staff at Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, teaches registrars and closely involved with Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute.
Dr Leber is a General Ophthalmologist with extensive experience in cataract surgery and managing glaucoma. His special interest include the treatment of macular conditions, including Age-Related Degeneration, Diabetes, Retinal Vein Occlusion using intravitreal therapies and managing eyelid disorders.

Dr Hoffman graduated medical training in 1996 before going on to complete a Master of Health Ethics in 2003. He also studied ophthalmology at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne and completed his fellowship training in Cheltenham in the UK in 2007.
He is an ophthalmic surgeon with over 10 years of experience performing intravitreal therapies. He has performed over 10000 intravitreal injections for wet macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular oedema, diabetic macular swelling and retinal vein occlusion.
Dr Hoffman has a keen interest in the latest laser assisted cataract surgery, intravitreal therapies, Glaucoma, dry eyes, pediatrics and lid problems and is committed to provide complete eye care for his patients. Dr Hoffman is a visiting consultant (Senior Medical Staff) at Western Health, Footscray.

Dr Benjamin Au is a General Comprehensive Ophthalmologist.
He is originally from Toronto, Canada and in 2010 completed his undergraduate training in the UK at St George's, University of London (formerly known as St George's Hospital Medical School) which included the Moorfields Duke Elder Eye Unit.
He then moved to Singapore for his ophthalmology training at the prestigious Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) and in 2020 pursued a fellowship in Complex Cataracts at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (RVEEH). He has also undertaken observerships in US, Canada and Singapore with various eminent ophthalmologists.
He has served in numerous leadership roles during his career and is currently the Clinical Lead of the Acute Ophthalmology Service at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.
His diverse global experience allows him to provide individualized care across a wide range of ophthalmic specialties His areas of interest include General Ophthalmology, Cataract Surgery. Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Eye disease, Glaucoma, Lid & Pterygium Surgery

Dr Mantzioros completed his medical degree at Monash University in 1980. Subsequently, he undertook specialist ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital completing his fellowship in 1989. To further advance his knowledge and surgical skills, Dr Mantzioros undertook an additional Clinical and Research Glaucoma Fellowship position in the United States at the University of California, San Diego. Following his return to Melbourne, he has been working in private practise. During this time he was also a visiting Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital for 20 years.
Dr Mantzioros specialises in minimally invasive cataract surgery, refractive lens exchange and uses toric intraocular lenses for astigmatism correction, as well as multifocal and extended depth of focus intraocular lenses in appropriate patients. As a result of managing patients with glaucoma and cataract, he performs complex cataract surgery on patients with co-existing eye conditions. He is a certified iStent practitioner and routinely offers this option to all cataract patients with coexisting glaucoma at the time of their surgery.
Dr Mantzioros practises comprehensive ophthalmology with a special interest in the treatment of common retinal vascular disorders such as neovascular age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vein occlusions and has performed thousands of intravitreal injections.
In his practice, Dr Mantzioros uses a personalised approach, recognising that each patient's needs and visual requirements are unique, allowing them to make a fully informed decision about their eye care.
He is proficient in French and Greek
